Date: June 20th,
2003 Morning session:
Dr. Jeff Odel.
Dr. Jeff Odel, a
neuro-ophthalmologist and associate clinical professor of ophthalmology
of the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute of Columbia University in New York was the
graduation lecturer. The morning session was dedicated to this
lecture series and he gave the three lectures listed below:
Distinguishing retinal disease from optic neuropathy.
Multifocal ocular electrophysiology.
The neuro-ophthalmic signs of third, fourth, and sixth cranial nerve
palsies.
Afternoon session:
Commencement & Roast. Drs.
Goei, Gokhale, Marcus, and Nussbaum spoke at different times in the
afternoon session. Dr. Nussbaum gave a brief address thanking the
residents for their participation in the department and wishing them
well in the next phases of their lives. Dr.
Marcus provided the traditional roast of the residents by reviewing each
of their applications. Taking quotes from their applications and
letters sent to Dr. Luxenberg made for a lot of laughs. Dr.
Gokhale put together a humorous presentation on where each of the
residents will be in the year 2020. After this presentation by Dr.
Gokhale he did a combined presentation displaying photographs from their
lives with music. In typical style Dr. Gokhale recorded the music
into his dicta-phone holding this recorder up to the microphone during
the slides. Following the lead
of Dr. Gokhale the residents had put together a presentation which
showed where each of the faculty and a number of support staff were
going to be in the future. Of course, Dr. Marcus took the biggest
hit as Ken Krantz took his parting shots. Overall,
these residents made a great difference in the department and we all
have been impacted in ways that enhance our clinical and academic
outlooks. Reception: A
reception was held at the home of Dennis & Rhonda Marcus that
evening.
